As a result, previously excluded communities can now have access to such essential services as calling police or an ambulance, receiving post, voting, etc. Having an address also means such districts can be included in government infrastructure programs that aim at providing water, electricity and sanitation.

We have created geolocation solutions to assign virtual addresses in South Africa. This helped to provide the most necessary public services to the excluded areas. This change was so impactful that it has sparked growth of local businesses like rural grocery delivery and mobile payment applications.

Data Crowdsourcing

Citizens want to have a direct impact on the way their city or country operates. Voting and civic budgets are the most obvious options. Yet, with new technologies new possibilities emerge.

Crowdsourcing is especially becoming popular as it enables public institutions to ask people directly for ideas, solutions or essential information regarding a particular issue. In the past such feedback would be difficult to organise, time-consuming, and most likely ineffective. Nowadays gathering data through mobile apps and platforms is instant and allows to analyse results within minutes.

A great example of crowdsourcing for a good cause is collecting data on sources of air pollution. We have developed a platform and a mobile app that encouraged residents of Polish cities to provide information on spots of pollution emissions in their vicinity. As a result, we’ve created a map of areas that required immediate assistance. Data provided by the citizens helped local authorities and NGOs to raise awareness and draw a repair plan for improving air quality.
